Magical Moonlight Buttonbush. The 'Magical Moonlight' variety will reach 6-8' tall and 4-6' wide. Its large, white, button-shaped blooms emerge in early summer and attracts butterflies, bees and other pollinators. Does well in wet areas.
Sugar Shack Buttonbush. The 'Sugar Shack' is a dwarf variety that will reach 3-4' tall and wide. It is perfect for small garden spaces, rain gardens and pollinator gardens. Its large, fragrant white blooms attract butterflies, bees and other pollinators.
Mt. Airy' fothergilla produces white, bottlebrush blooms in the spring before foliage emerges. It will reach 4-6' tall and wide at maturity. Blue-green foliage turns vibrant shades of orange and red in the fall.
Compact Inkberry. The 'Compact' inkberry keeps a dense, rounded habit, growing 4-6' tall and wide. It is a slow grower and can easily be pruned back if desired. This variety can handle full sun or part shade and does well in moist soils, making this a great option for foundation areas that retain water. Black berries will appear in fall and persist through winter when paired with a pollinator, such as the 'Nordic'.
Shamrock Compact Inkberry. This compact form of the native inkberry has lustrous dark green leaves. It is a slow growing, evergreen shrub that will reach 3-4' tall and wide. Tolerates wet sites. Excellent for foundation planting and hedging.
Mr. Poppins Winterberry. 'Mr. Poppins' is a male variety that is used to pollinate female winterberry. It is a dwarf variety that will reach 3-4' tall and wide. Often used to pollinate 'Berry Heavy' and 'Berry Nice'.
Winter Red Winterberry. The 'Winter Red' produces clusters of red berries in the fall that persist into winter on bare stems. This variety will reach 6-8' tall and wide at maturity. Best berry set when pollinated by Southern Gentleman.
Morus rubra, or Red Mulberry, is a deciduous tree that may grow to 30 feet with a short trunk about 2 feet in diameter and a dense, spreading crown.The Red mulberry is best grown in rich, moist, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. It will be at its best in full sun. Prune in late fall or winter to avoid bleeding.
Goshiki' false holly is an attractive, evergreen shrub with striking variegated foliage that has a texture similar to holly leaves. It will slowly reach 8-10' tall and 6-8' wide in ideal conditions. Foliage emerges orange and red, adding a pop of color during the growing season. Can be kept smaller with pruning.
The 'Black Cat' pussy willow is a large variety that grows 10-15' tall and wide. In early spring, silvery-pink catkins appear and quickly turn jet black. Catkins are eye-catching and soft to the touch. This variety thrives in wet environments and is great for areas that are retaining moisture in your landscape. * Invasive, water-seeking roots - should be planted away from septic systems.
