The Duke Blueberry is a Northern Highbush Blueberry, growing well in cooler climates and northern regions. Developed by the USDA in Beltsville, Maryland, this variety was released to the public in 1987.
It is known both for its early season fruit, which is large with a firm, crisp texture, and its high yield of berries. The fruit has a tangy, sweet, delicate flavor. Blueberries are a top fruit source of antioxidants, and they are high in fiber and vitamin C.
The 'Jersey' blueberry is one of the most widely grown varieties due to its consistently high yeilds and sweet flavor. It is a late-season variety, ripening in late-July to August. It is self-fertile, but will produce more abundant crop when planted with other varieties. It will grow 6-8' tall and wide and will be covered with firm, crack resistant berries.
The 'Dawyck Purple' is a striking, columnar variety with deep purple foliage that emerges burgundy-red and darkens as the seasons change. It has an upright growth habit and will reach 25-50' tall and 10-15' wide.
The 'Edelweiss White' is a climbing variety that will rapidly grow 15-20' long. It produces large clusters of sweet, pale-gold grapes that ripen early in the season. When harvested early in the season, this sweet variety makes an excellent white wine.
